In your journey, children possess stellar wisdom. Children do not have the dominant ability to use language, nor do they belong to a society that teaches them what the world is. Instead, children use intuition, curiosity, and imagination, and they have the ability to know things for themselves.
Many of them can even sense the emotions of others before spoken instruction helps them better their world. They can detect something genuine long before any proof of it is given. They ask questions that many of us would think are impossible, without logical explanation. It is a sad truth that this world sees children’s wisdom as ignorance.
Your instinct is to try to explain/unwind/normalize every out-of-the-ordinary observation. You dismiss every imaginary friend. You attempt to replace their wonder with certainty. Children suffer from the idea that their imagination has to be smaller, their intuition quieter, and their curiosity significantly restricted.
This is one of the biggest underlying problems with humanity. Children have the ability to think of and imagine things that have yet to be discovered and that may be the next greatest jump in art, science, and new ways of living. What you perceive as imagination is, for them, a way to explore the vast amount of realities that your collective has yet to determine.
Children possess a significant level of intuitive intelligence. They can sense which people are safe, which places are in balance, and which choices are helpful and which are harmful. This guidance should be nurtured, not extinguished.
Teach children how to observe, not how to think.
Instead of expecting them to accept your answers, encourage them to question more.
Where appropriate, recognize and reward curiosity, not just the correct answer.
Remember that children are conscious, thinking, and communicating.
They are not empty vessels to be filled with your thoughts of how the world is.
When a child speaks, remember that the simplicity of their words can express the complexities of the world in a way that adults can no longer.
You are here to provide them with the space in which their natural intelligence may flourish.
As they grow, provide them with knowledge, but do not take away their sense of wonder.
Provide them with guidance and boundaries, but allow them to explore their world.
Children are the world’s greatest resource.
Every child is born with a unique gift to the world.
